Fiddle Players, Owen Bell, Perth

Owen Bell

Perth born fiddler who spent nearly 30 years living in the UK, where he taught himself fiddle when a member of a team of Morris Dancers in Cornwall. Since returning to Perth in 1994, he played with the Mucky Duck Bush Band for a couple of years and can now be seen busking around Perth. He plays lively toe-tapping dance music mainly English Country Dance tunes, (locally called 'Bush Band Music') along with some Irish and American dance tunes.

He plays along 'karaoke style' to a number of English Country Dance Bands, notably The Bursledon Village Band, The Bismarcks, The Old Swan Band, and Phoenix, using an iPod plugged into an iPod dock. He has a repertoire of several hundred tunes and so you will never hear the same tune played twice at one gig? unless requested to do so!

The unusual fiddle he plays has a Kevlar horn and is acoustic. It was designed and made by a luthier and violinist in Finland. To date, it is the only instrument of its kind in Australia. Perfect for small venues such as home, (indoor or out) or foyers and lobbies. Impromptu dancing is encouraged and frequently unavoidable!
